Burglaries probably linked — police

The  burglaries of neighbouring properties in Bruce St, Roslyn, are probably linked and police will be patrolling the area.

A home owner who left keys in a garage door and in the ignition of a motorcycle inside the garage went to check on a neighbour who had been burgled and returned to find both sets of keys missing.

The burglaries occurred between 2am and 3pm on Sunday.

Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said the initial burglary victim had a cellphone and wallet taken from a dining room table.

"They [the home owners] have woken to the front door and the front gate of their property being open and they were closed when they went to sleep.''

There was no indication whether the front door was locked before the home owners went to bed, Snr Sgt Waru said.

It was likely the same person was involved in both burglaries, she said.

"Because there's a pattern emerging, we will patrol the area.''

● About $1800 worth of camera equipment was taken from a car parked in Alton Ave, Musselburgh, at the weekend.

Snr Sgt Waru said there was no sign of forced entry to the car.

She was unsure whether the car was locked.
