Burglar swaps watches in Sth Dunedin break-in

A thief who stole a wristwatch from a Melbourne St address left the one he was wearing at the scene, police say.

Sergeant Steve Aitken, of Dunedin, said the burglar ''left his watch and swapped it for another'' overnight on Saturday. The stolen watch was camouflage coloured.

An imitation Glock BB gun, a hunting knife, a touch screen computer and eight Playstation 4 games were also taken.

There was no sign of forced entry, Sgt Aitken said.

*A forklift was taken from outside Todd Engineering between 8pm and 8am on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Snr Sgt Aitken said it had possibly been taken for a joyride as it was found ''just around the corner'' on Glasgow St and a broken beer bottle was found nearby.

*An unlocked car parked on Tomahawk Rd was entered on Christmas Eve and a backpack was removed. The car owners keys were also taken.
