The Fairfield Primary School library is about to get an influx of books thanks to a successful book fair on July 26-28.
Fairfield Primary School librarian Krystene Todd said a large number of pupils had bought books from the Scholastic book fair which meant funds raised would be used to update the school's book collection.
‘‘This is a special thing because it gets the children reading and the profits come back to the school.''
The school held the book fair every two years to coincide with parent teacher interviews, she said.
‘‘It means the parents can have a browse and depending on how the interview goes ... buy their children some books.''
This year popular books included the Dolphin School series and anything by Geronimo Stilton, Ms Todd said.
Fairfield Primary School pupil Jonathan Tucker said it was the first time he had bought a book at the fair.
‘‘I think it seems pretty good because they have a large variety of books, some of them I have read.
‘‘But I have seen so many people buying books. It's a really good idea.''
Ms Todd did not know how much the fair had raised, but she hoped the school would be able to buy ‘‘a fair few'' picture books with the proceeds.
