The Dunedin City Council yesterday approved the change, adding a total of $31,742 to the $10,000 the six boards will each get in the next financial year.
Crs Andrew Whiley, Jules Radich and Steve Walker had to abstain from the vote due to a potential conflict of interest given their involvement in their respective boards’ annual plan submissions.
Council city services general manager Sandy Graham said because of Covid-19, many of the boards were unable to meet formally and were unable to hold their June meetings, which usually started the spending process.
‘‘We’ve taken a firm line we don’t normally carry spending forward, but this is an exceptional circumstance.’’
The West Harbour Community Board would receive the highest amount with $8730 in unspent funding carried over.
