Board chairman Scott Weatherall said the board awarded $1000 to the year 13 Otago Boys' High School pupil to help fund some of the cost of representing New Zealand at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Hawaii in August.
Andrew has also been selected for the youth team to compete the World Lifesaving Championships in Montpellier, France, in September.
''He's at the top of his game and a real prospect to represent New Zealand at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.''
Andrew said he hoped to achieve the board's expectations and was training hard.
He was pleased with the award and the board's financial help to get to international competition.
''Everything helps.''
