More than 100 beverages will be on offer at the event, being run by Otago University Students' Association (OUSA), at Forsyth Barr Stadium. OUSA communications co-ordinator Alasdair Johnston, who was at the stadium yesterday helping set up, said everything had gone to plan and he was confident it would become and annual event.
The organisers had prepared for cool weather by getting in extra heaters and the fact it was under the stadium roof would protect people from the elements, Mr Johnston said.
About 2000 tickets had been sold, and when last minute and gate sales were included, about 2500 were expected.
OUSA president Francisco Hernandez said the event had a special focus on local producers.
''We saw that Dunedin had this gap when it came to celebrating its food and brewing heritage and thought we'd make it happen and get Dunedin residents and students out enjoying what the region has to offer,'' Mr Hernandez said.
Auckland band Sola Rosa, along with a number of local acts, were booked to play at the festival. The event runs from noon to 7pm and door sales are available.
