While inland areas felt the chill of winter with lower temperatures, the whole region enjoyed a weekend of clear weather and light winds.
Coastal Otago had highs in double digits, while Oamaru registered the top temperature of the holiday break with 13.4degC on Saturday.
Temperatures reached 12.7degC in the steampunk capital yesterday, with Dunedin close behind on 12degC.
Elsewhere in the region the cooler temperatures started to bite, Alexandra and Wanaka reaching only 6degC and Queenstown touching 8degC.
But all the major centres of Otago reached double digits during the long weekend.
MetService meteorologist Arno Dyason said the unseasonal weather was set to continue before a trough hit the region this weekend.
Temperatures were predicted to rise during the week. However, the warmer weather would be accompanied by showers and strong winds, he said.
The entire country was benefiting from a warm spell.
"It's a little bit warmer for this time of year.
"Countrywide it was sunny [during the long weekend]. Sunny but also frosty.''
Snow was predicted for high-country areas and might fall in coastal Otago next week, he said.
Double-digit temperatures and rain are predicted for all of Otago's major centres later this week. Oamaru is expected to reach 18degC on Friday.
