Bar facing suspension of licence

A Dunedin bar is facing suspension of its liquor licence after alcohol was sold to an underage patron at the establishment on Thursday.

Police targeted eight premises in North Dunedin and the Octagon in the first controlled purchase operation since February.

Alcohol harm reduction officer Sergeant Ian Paulin said a person under the legal drinking age of 18 years attempted to buy alcohol without identification at each pub.

"One premises failed in that it served alcohol to a minor," he said.

"A couple of issues have arisen that we have to investigate.

"From there, we will likely make an application to the Liquor Licensing Authority to suspend the bar's on-licence for a period of time," Sgt Paulin said.

The authority decided if, when and for how long licences were suspended.

Once a decision had been made, the premises would be named.
