Mrs Campbell-Hunt, who died in a tramping accident in 2008, wrote the feasibility study which led to the creation of the Orokonui Ecosanctuary.
She was the sanctuary's project manager from 2003 to 2006.
She was also a PhD candidate in Otago's geography department and was part-way through completing her thesis on New Zealand's six fenced ecosanctuaries when she died.
After her death, donations were collected to fund a memorial award.
A report to the university council this week said one prize of at least $1000 would be awarded annually for the next 10 years to an Otago PhD candidate researching a conservation topic.
Applicants would be judged on an academic paper accepted for publication in a journal or for presentation at a conference.
Within 12 months of the award being granted, the recipient would be expected to write and have published a non-technical article about their work in a general-readership magazine.
