Otago and Southland can expect normal - or slightly warmer than normal - weather this autumn, according to a Niwa report.
Niwa's National Climate Change Centre's Season Climate Outlook - a quarterly report - predicts few surprises for the South Island from April through June of this year.
Otago and Southland temperatures are ''equally likely ... to be in the near average or above average range'', the report says.
Following on the heels of this summer's drought, the report predicts that soil moisture levels and river flows in coastal Canterbury and east Otago will ''most likely ... be in the below normal range''.
Southland and the rest of Otago would have ''near normal'' river and moisture levels.
