The Taieri Musical Society is gearing up for next year's production, The Sound of Music, and auditions will be held November 7-9.
Auditions for the production's approximately 40 roles would be held in the Mosgiel Coronation Hall, Taieri Musical Society marketing manager Ben Thomas said.
The society's members were looking forward to the ''more subdued'' production, following this year's performance of Mamma Mia in the Regent Theatre, he said.
''There's not so much of a chorus in this one,'' he said.
''Normally we have quite a big chorus, while this one's a bit more subdued.''
The children's roles would be double-cast to allow more young people to take part.
The focus on children was one of the reasons The Sound of Music was chosen.
''We haven't done a kids' show in a few years and one of our goals is to get kids into theatre ... and that's one of the reasons we chose it.''
The society was ''really looking forward'' to returning to the Coronation Hall.
''The Sound of Music is quite complex in terms of scenery and the Coronation Hall is quite a different arena [compared with the Regent Theatre] and we have to think outside the box .''
Good crowds were expected at the performances, following the support the society received this year, he said.
''We are expecting people to turn out in big numbers for this one; it is a classic.''
But first a cast had to be selected from the about 100 hopefuls expected to audition.
Rehearsals start next February and performances will be held in the Coronation Hall from May 14-23.
