A Dunedin musician needs help to get a government grant.

Abby Wolfe (19) is headlining an afternoon concert in a terrace area at the Dunedin Centre in Harrop St on Sunday in a bid to get a $10,000 NZ On Air grant.

To meet the criteria, she needs more than 100 people to attend.

The former Logan Park High School pupil recently finished recording her debut EP.

Funding would help enable her to make a professional recording in Auckland with a band.

The grant would also help pay for a music video.

"It's a pretty big deal.''

On Sunday, she would perform "upbeat'' music with a support band.

The venue's capacity was 108 people, so a nearly full house was needed to meet the criteria for the grant.

"I'm cutting it fine.''

NZ On Air spokeswoman Allanah Kalafatelis said the broadcast funding agency received 125 Making Tracks applications a month.

About 25 of those applications were given funding.

The criteria acted as a "filter'' to ensure the musicians had a following before applying and being assessed by a judging panel.
