An unusual art exhibition opens in Dunedin next week.

Your money will be no good at the 2012 Artsenta group exhibition at the Dunedin Community Gallery.

But you are welcome to make your own artwork to swap for a work on display.

"We wanted to do an interactive art exhibition, where people could come in and see what we do and give it a go themselves," Artsenta art worker Jake Scott said yesterday.

"Rather than exchange money, we want people to see what they like and then replace it with something they've made themselves."

A large trestle table with free materials has been set up in the gallery to make the artworks.

"Artsenta is an outlet to get creative and we want people to come in and have a look and be inspired by what we do.

"It's a way of swapping ideas and we hope everyone will come in and have a go," Mr Scott said.

Artsenta provides free training in pottery, music, jewellery, drawing, glasswork and other creative mediums for people over 17 who use mental-health services.

The exhibition is open at the Dunedin Community Gallery all next week.
