The site where the Lodge St John has stood for nearly 100 years is being reduced to rubble.

Demolition under way at 25 Gordon Rd will clear the way for a three-lot subdivision incorporating a two-unit duplex, and a third vacant new allotment will be created on the site, Dunedin City Council consent documents show.

The documents note the site is listed as hazardous due to the presence of a fuel storage tank associated with on-site heating.

Consent for the project was granted in July.

The site was previously owned by the Mosgiel Masonic Lodge before it was sold in February. According to OneRoof it was sold for $965,000.
