Buffed bonnets, big-block Chevs and ''body snatchers'' attracted a large crowd to a classic American car show in Dunedin at the weekend.
Stateside Streeters president Alan Smith said the ''Great USA Day'' at Tahuna Park on Friday and Saturday attracted nearly 200 cars.
Cars were driven from as far as Christchurch for the `awesome turnout'' at the annual event, he said.
Car enthusiast Brendon Arbuckle (41), of Dunedin, said the coke bottle gear lever, number plate floor and coffee-sack car seat covers inside a rusty '27 Roadster was a highlight.
''It's unique. It should be in an art gallery.''
The graveyard murals of the 1938 Pontiac 6 hearse called ''Bodysnatcher'' attracted glances from Mosgiel Funeral Services owner Robert Campbell.
''I had a look and a giggle.''
Corvette convertible owner Karen Mears, of Mosgiel, said the roar of her big-block Chev engine attracted a crowd. Hot rod enthusiast Colin Gale, of Dunedin, said he enjoyed both his ''twin loves'' at the event, photography and hot rods.
Mr Gale has been attending the event for 15 years. This year had been good, he said.
''But there's never a bad year.''
