A bequest has enabled St John to buy a new $200,000 ambulance to service the Taieri area.

The public was invited to a dedication of the new ambulance on Sunday, at 2.30pm, at the Hartstonge St station, followed by an open day and afternoon tea, Taieri area St John chairman John Hanrahan said.

The ambulance arrived three weeks ago.

It is embossed with the name of the benefactor, Mary Louise Minn, of Mosgiel, who died in February 2014, aged 100.

Mr Hanrahan said St John was underfunded nationally, so the bequest made a difference.

It would have required much fundraising to raise such a sum.

The price included fully equipping the ambulance.

The station's old ambulance had gone to the Oamaru station.

Mr Hanrahan said station staff and volunteers had been issued a new St John uniform.

The new uniform, which is green instead of black and white, was more practical, he said.

The new uniform was being introduced throughout the country.

The Taieri station received theirs a couple of weeks ago.
