Alleged thief, cohort arrested

An intoxicated group acting up in the central city liquor ban zone came to the attention of police on Monday evening.

Sergeant Matt Lee, of Dunedin, said police were called to George St at 5.30pm after reports of a group drinking and acting in a disorderly manner within the liquor ban zone.

Police found one of the men had allegedly stolen his alcohol from a liquor store in George St.

The 28-year-old man was arrested and charged with shoplifting and will appear in court.

However, one of his friends became obstructive when the alleged shoplifter was being arrested.

The 30-year-old man was also arrested and charged with obstruction, assaulting police and making two threats to kill.
