Learning the science of honey will be one of the children's workshops being held as part of the festival's theme, Everyday Science: Food for Thought.

Thomas (7) and Olivia (9) Green try out bee suits and equipment in preparation for the start of the International Science Festival in Dunedin on July 6.

Festival associate director Chris Green said there would be something for everyone at the daily demonstrations at the Wall Street mall.

Bee suits and honeycombs would be on hand and University of Otago researchers and honey exporters would answer questions.

Other children's workshops will include getting DNA from a tomato, cooking without looking, identifying a healthy breakfast and turning rubbish into art.

Many of the children's workshops are free but bookings are recommended.
