Three incidents in three hours involving airguns yesterday was not only "extremely unusual", but also a cause of concern for Dunedin police.
Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said the first incident occurred in David St, Caversham, when, it is believed, a 13-year-old boy shot a bus driver in the neck with a BB gun.
About 6.50pm, a slug gun was fired from a house in Mosgiel and a man was hit, and about 7.15pm a passenger in a car travelling around central Dunedin was firing pellets. One man was hit in the side of the face, Snr Sgt Aitken said.
"People need to be aware that even plastic pellets, if they hit someone in the face or eye, can cause an injury.
"It's pretty incomprehensible that people would consider shooting pellets at other people."
It was concerning for police to see an increasing number of these incidents, he said.
Inquiries are continuing into all three incidents.
