The Otago University Students' Association (OUSA) has revealed plans to spend about $500,000 upgrading its clubs and societies centre in Albany St.

The project, which is outlined in a paper released by the OUSA this week, includes a series of small improvements aimed at extending the life of the building and maintaining its popularity with students.

The improvements include changes to the aesthetics of the building, introducing an online booking system, installing non-slip flooring in the sauna area, putting in sound proofing and installing ventilation in the dance room.

OUSA president Logan Edgar said the plans came about after discussions with the student executive, but the OUSA wanted to hear from students and the wider community before finalising the details of the project.

"Students love our clubs and societies centre and we want to make sure we keep it up to date and relevant for them," Mr Edgar said.

A University of Otago survey from 2010 found 83% of students used the clubs and societies centre, 81% believed it was an important service and 82% were satisfied with the service.

The OUSA is asking students and members of the Dunedin public who use the facility for feedback on the proposed changes, either via a submission or as part of a discussion meeting to be held at 11am next Tuesday at the clubs and societies centre.
