A 15-year-old youth was the subject of a police pursuit in Dunedin yesterday after allegedly stealing a car and damaged two buildings.
Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen said about 10pm on Sunday the teenager was seen outside a Gladstone Rd address, where a Mazda Demio was stolen.
Police allege he burgled the Highgate Dairy, taking the cash register which contained an unknown amount of money.
Rocks were thrown at a window in a fish and chip shop in North Rd, but nothing was taken.
The car was caught on CCTV which enabled police to track the alleged offender ‘‘pretty quick’’, Snr Sgt Dinnissen said.
Police pursued the stolen car along Howe St near the Baa Bar and down Castle St.
Snr Sgt Dinnissen said the youth was apprehended at 3.59am when the stolen car was driven into a dead end in Castle St.
The driver escaped on foot, but was tracked by police dogs and arrested.
The youth was also linked to the theft of a orange Mazda Demio in Carlaw St on the night of November 30, Snr Sgt Dinnissen.
The teenager is scheduled to appear in youth court this week.
