University of Otago researchers have been awarded more than $13.7 million in the largest ever round of Marsden Fund grants, Science and Innovation Minister Steven Joyce announced this morning.
The grants will fund 23 research projects spanning 14 departments across the university.
Some $65.2 million was allocated to 117 proposals nationally.
The Marsden Fund supports excellence in science, engineering, maths, social sciences and humanities by funding investigator-initiated research.
University of Otago research and enterprise deputy vice-chancellor Prof Richard Blaikie praised the Otago recipients for their success.
"Our researchers' stellar success reflects the excellence of the proposals they have put forward for this extremely competitive fund."
Researchers from the Anatomy, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, History, Microbiology and Immunology, Music, Theatre and Performing Arts, Pathology, Philosophy, Physiology, Psychology, Women's and Children's Health and Zoology departments received grants.
