PlaceMakers Carisbrook owner-operator Justin Macready celebrates the opening of the new PlaceMakers in Dunedin ahead of a grand opening yesterday afternoon.

Mr Macready said he was "just so relieved" to be celebrating the opening of the new store on the former Dunedin rugby grounds.

Covid and material supply issues had caused setbacks for the project. Construction of the new store started in April last year and yesterday some Highlanders old boys joined Mr Macready’s colleagues and about 300 customers for the grand opening celebrations.

"We were meant to be here 14 months ago," he said.

"But we are here now and we are just so happy."

Mr Macready said he had attended many games at Carisbrook and keeping the history alive was a focus for the building materials store now.

He was continuing to buy rugby memorabilia to furnish a permanent display in the store.
