MADDIE BLACKLER
2013: Captain of the school’s First XV rugby team, Blackler was also an alto in the New Zealand Secondary Students Choir. She grew up on a remote high country station and hoped to study veterinary science.
2023: As the field technician supervisor at the OceanaGold mine, Blackler co-ordinates grade control drilling in the open pit to determine where the gold-bearing rock is situated and its grade value. She has a bachelor of agriscience and on her days off, enjoys working alongside her parents on their South Canterbury farm. Shiftwork makes it difficult to be involved in other activities but the Oamaru woman hopes to get back into music and rugby soon. She toured Malaysia and Singapore with the New Zealand Secondary Students Choir in 2014 and completed the Coast to Coast in 2019.
