Forsyth Barr Stadium was a sea of white last night as thousands of toga-clad students celebrated O Week on a balmy Dunedin night.

The mood was good and, while a few eggs were thrown, the event was not marked by the disorder of some years.

Students started the night chanting - Arana College was the target of many - and taking selfies as they made their way to the stadium.

They quickly got to dancing and a few more selfies once inside.

Police stood near the stadium gates and removed alcohol from students, reminding them of the temporary liquor ban in place around the stadium.

St John and Otago University Students’ Association Are You OK? volunteers were on hand to help the few students who had overindulged.

An hour before the party finished a police spokeswoman said there had been no arrests or disorder callouts associated with the event.

OUSA president Hugh Baird said the atmosphere was "absolutely amazing" and the behaviour was better than last year.
