Acting 'Critic' editor appointed to role

The Otago University Students' Association has selected a replacement for the former editor of student magazine Critic, who resigned following an employment dispute last month.

OUSA president Francisco Hernandez announced yesterday Sam McChesney, who took over as acting editor after former editor Callum Fredric's departure, had been appointed editor.

''I am very pleased that Sam McChesney has been appointed to the position and best of luck to him and his team for the second semester,'' Mr Hernandez said.

His appointment comes after Mr Fredric stood down following an employment dispute, which culminated in police being called to the Critic office. Mr Fredric was understood to have reached a $35,000 settlement with the OUSA.

Mr Hernandez said he hoped Critic would be ''a lot more settled'' under Mr McChesney's leadership.
