Attempted abduction of boy in Sydney

Police are investigating the attempted abduction of a boy in Sydney's south.

The seven-year-old boy got out of his mother's car in a car park on Port Hacking Road, Caringbah, at about 3.50pm (AEDT) on Saturday to walk to a nearby video store.

When the boy was about to enter the store, a man grabbed him by the arm and forced him to walk towards a nearby car.

The boy managed to break free and ran back to his mother. She went back to the location but could not find the man involved or his car.

Police have seized CCTV from the video store and a nearby convenience store in the hope it might show the man involved.

He's been described as Caucasian, 40 to 50 years of age, thin build, with short black hair.
