Basketball gives me the opportunity to satisfy my competitive nature, stay healthy, set goals, be a part of team that wants the best for each other and be a part of the Otago basketball community.
What is your earliest memory of playing?
In the backyard in Palmerston North. I have four brothers of which I’m the second-youngest. It was always my youngest brother, my oldest brother and myself against the middle two. My oldest brother James ended up playing two years for the Andy Bay Falcons. I guess I somewhat followed his footsteps coming down to Dunedin. I’ll forgive him for the Andy Bay part.
Who influenced you growing up?
All three of my older brothers. They were prefects at Palmerston North Boys’ High and played for the premier A team. My younger self didn’t have basketball aspirations beyond that team, so I thought they were unreal.
What is your most embarrassing moment?
Not being able to complete my year 11 English speech as I was way too spooked.
Who would play you in the film of your life and why?
I think Jason Hoyte is hilarious. Would love to see him living my life.
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Chips in any form. Hot chips, potato chips, crinkle, straight, curly, waffle, meat on chips. Love them all.
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party and why?
Jrue Holiday. I’d love to pick his brain about defence. And probably my grandparents and my fiancee’s grandparents.
Property aside, what’s the most extravagant thing you’ve bought?
Lawnmower and weed-whacker on the same day. Still two of my favourite purchases.
What song do you train to and why?
Mostly podcasts. The Lowe Post by Zach Lowe, or whatever Mike Spencer (Nuggets trainer) is blasting at Valley Strength and Conditioning.
Which team-mate do you avoid sitting next to on the bus and why?
Jack Andrew. Talks too much.
