What was the best birthday present you ever received, and why?
A giant 5000-piece Lego Millennium Falcon given to me by my wife and kids.

What smell do you find irresistible?
Hot chips. That's a dangerous smell. It always makes me want to eat them, way too often.

What is your least favourite thing about humanity?
Greed. People - dictators and financial institutions - creating suffering for so many others because of greed. It is just utterly disgusting that the average person has to pay for others' greed. And the bigger a person or organisation is, the easier it is for them to get away with it.

What is one strong childhood memory?
I started karting when I was 8 years old, in Hawkes Bay. I have a lot of great memories from those days, when it was nice and simple and pure fun. Getting the chance to be in control of a machine that raced around a track. I recall the adrenaline and happiness. It was pretty awesome.

What is your message?
It's about working out what the important things are. Try to reflect on things that happen to other people which have touched you, to gain perspective on how important events that happen to you are in the scheme of things. It's easy to say and difficult to do, but it's critical because so many things that people get wound up about, when you reflect on them, you realise they were no cause for concern or worry.
