Hi Emma Gilmour here and in this video you're going to learn how to check your tyre pressure.
Tyre pressure is important for a few reasons:
Reason 1: Tyres are the things that connect you with the road and having the wrong pressure in them can increase your risk as the tyres aren't working at their optimum.
Reason 2: Having the wrong tyre pressure also makes your less economical, if the pressure is too low then you're going to need more fuel to push the car along
Reason 3: Having uneven tyre pressure (which is common) also effects your car's handling
The good news is, checking your tyres are quick and easy; follow these steps to ensure you're driving on the right tyre pressure.
Step 1: Check the inside of your car door, typically there will be a manufactures sticker that shows you the correct pressure for your car
Step 2: In this video I have my own little tyre pressure gauge that I use for rally driving (which you can get at places like Repco) but you can use the air pressure pump at the service station and it works in the same way. Remove the cap from your tyre nozzle and push the air pump into it. You should now see a gauge window that tells you what pressure your tyre is at it will have a scale going from 0 - 10 - 20 - 30 - 40 - 50 - 60 etc
Step 3: If your pressure is a little low squeeze the air trigger in short bursts until you reach the right level. If you pressure is a little high then you can release air by pulling the pump nozzle away from the tyre valve a little bit, you'll hear a hissing noise. Do this in short bursts until you're at the right tyre pressure level.
If you don't have the sticker on the inside door of your car then ask the service attendant to help you out.
