Lorde has defied police efforts to shut her down and played her new single at a pop-up event at a New York park.
Thousands of fans flocked Washington Square Park after the Kiwi pop superstar teased a Big Apple show to preview upcoming single What Was That.
However, the gathering was not in tune with local law enforcement who ordered the crowd to disperse.
Lorde took to her Instagram to apologise.
“Omg @thepark the cops are shutting us down I am truly Amazed by how many of you showed up !!!” she wrote. “But they’re telling me you gotta disperse … I’m so sorry.”
Patient fans who hung around the park were rewarded when the singer later made an appearance.
Although she did not perform live, Lorde danced along to the new track, which is scheduled to be released on Friday. - APL
