Tonight sees a rare live performance by long-running Christchurch moody garage/psychedelic band The Terminals.

The first Terminals show in Dunedin since 2009, it follows two recent outings in Christchurch.

The current line-up of the seminal band features regular members Stephen Cogle (guitar and vocal), Mick Elborado (keyboards), John Chrisstoffels (bass) and Peter Stapleton (drums). Nicole Moffatt (violin) replaces guitarist Brian Crook, who now lives in California.

Originally formed in 1988 by members of other notable early '80s acts (The Victor Dimisich Band, The Pin Group, Scorched Earth Policy), The Terminals released two albums and an EP for Flying Nun Records, and a number of items for Port Chalmers label Xpressway.

Singles and Sundries, an LP compilation of the band's early singles is currently scheduled for release on Brooklyn, NY, label BaDaBing - a label making a habit of releasing quality New Zealand music - in September.

Also next month, the label will release Hamish Kilgour's (The Clean) debut solo album, and Temporary: Selections From Dunedin's Pop Underground 2011-2014, a compilation co-release with local micro independent label Fishrider Records.

The Terminals will be supported by fellow Christchurch band Dark Matter and Opposite Sex.

Cogle, Chrisstoffels and Moffatt, along with drummer Michael Daly, are also members of Dark Matter, which has recently released a self-titled LP of dark, brooding songs on US label Siltbreeze.

Dunedin post-punk/pop trio Opposite Sex will open the evening.

Comprised of Lucy Hunter (bass and vocals), Tim Player (drums and vocals) and Reg Norris (guitar), Opposite Sex is putting the final touches on their second album with Nick Graham, with a view to a December release.

• Ladi 6 brings her acclaimed third album Automatic to Re:Fuel next week.

Released last year, the album received strong local reviews and debuted at number three on the national music charts.

Ladi 6 is about to embark on European and US tours.

Auckland hip-hop collective Team Dynamite and local MC Arcee are in support.

• This month Radio One 91FM, the Otago University Students Association (OUSA) and 91 Club present a special voter enrolment party before the upcoming election.

It will feature musical performances from Kamandi, Bailey Wiley, Tom Scott, of Homebrew and @peace, and A.C. Entry is free with proof of enrolment. Get your free ticket by enrolling at Radio One reception or the OUSA main office now and avoid the queue.

Generation Zero will also be helping check enrolments at the door.
