Dunedin ska mainstays TLA are ''hanging up the Fedoras'' tonight, playing a farewell show at Re:Fuel.

The band will also be releasing their first album Free the Feeling as well as a 7'' Peter King lathe cut polycarbonate featuring singles Monopoly Man and Get Away.

TLA formed five years ago in the practice rooms at Logan Park High School, and in the intervening years has played innumerable shows around Dunedin, toured the South Island and released the Beef! EP in 2012.

HAVANA GOOD TIME

Having just released a wonderful new solo album The Green House, Robert Scott will play an intimate show early next week at the Havana Lounge.

The album, too, is an intimate listen, Scott in quasi-pastoral mood taking his time through folkish domestic ditties and gentle rockers.

Five of the tracks find Scott pairing with Tiny Ruins' Hollie Fullbrook, who's gorgeous voice tenderly wraps around Scott's, giving the album a calm somnolence.

Portil records will also present a few videos of their favourite artists and performances on the venue's theatre-sized screen.

AXEMEN COMETH

Wellington metal behemoths Beastwars and American stoner-doom band Windhand are touring the country next week on a double bill following headline appearances at Australia's travelling Doomsday Festival.

Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Windhand's latest album, Soma, has met critical acclaim in metal circles for its combination of hulking, monolithic riffs and ethereal, haunting psychedelia.

Beastwars, meanwhile, continues to prove itself as a powerhouse both live and in the studio.

Last year's Blood Becomes Fire reached No 2 on the New Zealand charts, and frontman Matt Hyde is simply one of the most captivating live performers this country has produced.

LATEST STOP

Christchurch-born songwriter Jol Mulholland is on tour to support his new album, Stop and Start Again.

For Jol, the eldest of the Mulholland brothers (alongside Will and Eden), the album is the follow-up to his 2011 debut solo record Eugene Told Me You Were Dead.
