The New Zealand music industry is abuzz that English super group Radiohead may tour this year.

Dunedin would appear to be in a strong position to host a New Zealand concert, as the band has indicated it will favour indoor stadiums on its 2012 world tour.

The 35,000-seater Forsyth Barr Stadium is the only indoor venue in New Zealand capable of meeting Radiohead's wishes.

Auckland radio station Hauraki reported Wellington musician Connan Hosford saying he would be supporting a Radiohead tour in November.

The rumour was reinforced by Auckland radio host Charlotte Ryan on Monday, who said an "industry insider" confirmed the band would tour New Zealand in November.

Last month, Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien revealed the 2012 tour would visit "the usual ports of call" between February and November.

"Although there will be some shows at outdoor spaces, the tour will focus on indoor venues," O'Brien said.

Radiohead's last Australian and New Zealand tour, in 1998, was promoted by the Frontier Touring Company. However, when contacted yesterday, Frontier Touring Company New Zealand publicity officer Maria Robinson said she could "neither confirm, nor deny" any tour speculation.

"Frontier has had no official confirmation of a Radiohead tour in New Zealand, at this stage," she said from Auckland.

Radiohead starts its 2012 world tour in Miami on February 27, but has only confirmed dates up to its July 15 concert, in Lisbon, Portugal.

The band's 10-concert tour of the United States sold out within an hour and a-half of tickets going on sale in November.

Radiohead has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and was ranked number 73 in Rolling Stone magazine's 2005 list of the greatest artists of all time.
