Music Review: Camila Cabello

From a less than (fifth) harmonious split from girl group purgatory to Latino-flecked paydirt, Camilla Cabello’s rise to pop super-stardom has been stratospheric.

In spite of its fraught genesis, her debut is refreshingly free of the Queen Bee posturing associated with fractious solo career aspirations — clocking in at a breezy 40 minutes, and with a beguiling mix of slinky salsa, tender acoustic meanderings and huge ballads with vein-popping choruses (the notes on All These Years will make both throat and heart ache), it’s ebullience offsets the generic patchiness, showcasing an artist completely at ease striking out on her own.
