It's been a while since this doyen of New Zealand songwriting has played in town, so tickets should sell out fast.
We talked via email.
The Arts On Tour-funded jaunt is an extensive trip around some of the country's more isolated spots, playing some unusual venues.
It begins at Sam Mahon's Old Mill in North Canterbury and ends at the Gaiety Hall, Akaroa, and takes in spots such as Okarito, Westport, and Oamaru.
McGlashan's jaunt around the South comes closer to home next week when he plays in Central Otago.
McGlashan says he has been enjoying playing solo and is bringing a few tricks with him, in line with recent performances.
"I've just done a solo show at the NZ International Festival in Wellington. That was the first show to sell out in the whole festival, they tell me.
"This tour is solo. With some looping pedals, my guitar and my horn (a baritone horn now, I'm giving the euphonium a rest for a while)."
It can be argued that a songwriter of exceptional quality is better solo than in a band, and McGlashan says he is enjoying "the solo thing".
" I'm really enjoying the freedom it gives me to connect with the audience."
This may be the last time we see Don McGlashan down here for a while, as he's leaving on a jet plane, reasonably soon.
"Next up I'm touring solo to London, Leeds, Edinburgh, Amsterdam, New York and LA."
People lucky enough to have tickets to his shows could well be in line for a treat.
"I'll be going back through my catalogue, pulling out some old songs and some new ones. Every show on this tour will be different. I can't predict how they'll go."
The day before the Don's return, Haunted Love presents a showcase of Dunedin artists, which they've called Popular.
The Friday April 30 gig at 12 Below is pretty much a who's who of Dunedin's pop music scene, as the line-up includes DJ Mango Conray, Ed Cake, Bob Scott and the Moreporks, and of course... Haunted Love.
