The sometime-Dunedin band has been touring solidly for about four years, with plans to clock up more air points.
"We are currently in Auckland, and have been taking a break from touring.
"We just did a short Australian tour with Wolfmother about two weeks ago, that was pretty amazing, and we are going back to the UK in April."
Wilson says the band has also been working on a new recording project.
"We have been working hard on our new album with Nick Roughan and Thomas Healy.
"This is the first time since our band formed that we have ever really done demos and taken our time."
He says the band is undertaking a slight course change in musical styles.
"The new songs are sounding great; they are sonically louder, but a bit more melodic. We also have had a lot of toys to play with like our new synths and samplers, so they have affected the songs a lot . . . but they sound like DDD [Die! Die! Die! ], so don't worry."
Wilson says a big highlight was October's tour of the UK.
" . . . not all the shows sold out but four of them did, which is pretty cool for a band from the other side of the world, especially because we don't even sell out shows in NZ."
Die! Die! Die! last played in Dunedin in November last year, before returning to America.
Wilson says although the band is enjoying taking a break, it is looking forward to releasing some new material.
"We need to get out of the practice room and tour. We need to play these new songs to people and we need to see if anyone will like them."
With an Australian bass player, not all of the three-piece band hail from Dunedin, but Wilson says he and drummer Michael Prain will always call The Edinburgh of The South home.
• Steve Abel and The Chrysalids play at Chicks Hotel at Port Chalmers on March 13th, before a trip to the Grainstore in Oamaru next Saturday.
Abel is living in Geneva these days and sees this tour as a chance to play some tunes with a group of old friends, including bassist for hire Mike Hall, former Goldenhorse member Geoff Maddock, and Pluto's Milan Borich.
