The band, which initially formed in 2000 and was hailed as ''the future of rock'' by the British music press after featuring numerous times on John Peel's BBC Radio 1 programme, is completing its first national tour since 2009. The foursome released their fifth studio album, entitled Death Rattle Boogie, in October last year.
Known and loved for their storming '70's rock and punk blend as in hits like Harmonic Generator and MF From Hell, and their intense howling and reckless live shows, this is one for the headbangers for sure.
• Charisma Collective, a brand-new independent record label, launches tonight at Purple Rain Retro Cafe.
Based on (but not limited to) electronic ideas, focusing on bringing together artists who wish to experiment with electronic music as a medium rather than a genre, artists on Charisma Collective's roster include Auckland's $noregazZzm, the raving electro project of former Dunedin resident Lisandru Grigorut of TFF and The Communist Rainbow Relationship, alongside newcomers Leon Neon and the dark, heavy, and amazing Face Dancer.
• After a single show in Wellington a few months back, David Saunders (of the 3Ds) and Street Chant are returning for a one-off New Zealand tour in conjunction with the release of a brand-new single.
Saunders, with Street Chant (Emily Littler, Billie Rogers, and Alex Brown) as his backing band, will perform a set of 3Ds classics (Hey Suess, Hellzapoppin, Outer Space and more) alongside covers and possibly a performance of a brand-new collaborative single.
As a bonus, Street Chant's Emily Littler will also perform the following night at Queens in her solo guise, Emily Edrosa, with support from locals Astro Children and Sonny Carver.
• The 3Ds were one of New Zealand's best known alternative rock bands, releasing four critically acclaimed albums through Flying Nun Records and supporting international heavyweights such as Nirvana, Pavement, and U2 during the 1990s.
In 2010, the band re-formed to play St Jerome's Laneway Festival in Auckland, perform with Pavement in New Zealand, and were invited to play All Tomorrows Parties in the UK.
