Releasing a series of psychotropic mellow and elegant singles (two of which top the New Zealand alternative top 40) without any label support, the duo of Steven Marr and Indi Force topped it off last month with a video premiere on major indie blog Pigeons and Planes.
Earlier this week, it was announced that the band, in its six-piece live incarnation, will perform at the Laneway Festival in January, alongside international heavyweights Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, Jamie xx, Run The Jewels (Killer Mike and El-P), James Blake, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Kurt Vile and, of course, Lorde.
Before that, however, Doprah will visit Dunedin next Friday to perform at Radio One's annual Onefest alongside unhinged Auckland punks Rackets, Young Gifted and Broke stars Team Dynamite, DJ Substance, and more.
The festival will run over two nights at Queens and Sammy's with a broad selection of New Zealand talent featuring.
- Dunedin quartet Alizarin Lizard began in late 2008 amid chaos and confusion, and spent the next year concocting weird pop songs and freaking out the punters.
Several national tours later the band has tightened up, refined its psychedelic meanderings and made a bunch of excellent psych-pop recordings.
With bass player Chris ''Bugs'' Miller currently stationed in the North Island, next week's gig at Queens provides a rare chance to catch the band in their former home.
They'll be supported by the Prophet Hens, and national Battle of the Bands winners The Fu King.
- After a day of workshops, stalls, poetry, and live music at Blackstar Books (111 Moray Pl, 10am-5pm), the official Zinefest 2013 after party gets under way at Chick's Hotel tonight.
The show featuring a huge line-up performers including Luke ''Disasteradio'' Rowell aka Eyeliner (Wellington), Bad Sav, Yuckers, Toy Destruction, Not From Space and a DJ set from Blink.
