CD Reviews: Trick Mammoth

Dunedin flower children Trick Mammoth go in search of the perfect feather-light pop song in this impressive 10-song debut for Fishrider Records and come within a cat's whisker of the sublime more times than they fall short.

Millie Lovelock's vocals in Baltimore, Pinker Sea and Delphine (With A Purpose) are a trifle timorous amid the guitar-pop jangle, as are Adrian Ng's in the slower, more melancholic numbers, but the writing is strong and the overall dynamic enchanting.

The best moments come with the boy/girl interplay in beefier track Days Of Being Wild and strong album-closer Week End.
