CD Reviews: Temples

The fact the debut album from Temples drips with reverberation is fitting given the British guitar group's 12-song set holds strong echoes of the pop-psychedelia of various 1960s acts (from both sides of the Atlantic).

Mixing the rhythmic muscle of, say, The Who with a rich vocal wash not dissimilar to The Byrds, Temples makes no attempt to hide its idols, yet manages to invoke enough tricks to energise the vacuum into which it casts some great melodies.

From the chorus of The Golden Throne to the strident T-Rex chant-vibe of Keep In The Dark, this is a band that seems to smile as it gazes at its shoes.
