CD review: Steve Earle

He may have lived in New York for a decade, yet Texan troubadour Steve Earle goes back to his roots on So You Wannabe An Outlaw, which he has dedicated to the late Waylon Jennings, whom he channels in loose, road-worn vibe if not overt vocal approach.

Featuring collaborations with Willie Nelson, Johnny Bush, and Miranda Lambert, Earle is abetted by  long-time band The Dukes, who brew up a dust storm in an Austin studio.

They know how to bring it all down, too, with acoustic, fiddle and pedal steel on ballads such as News From Colorado before returning to Telecaster territory  for the  uptempo material.
