Called Whites Aviation - Classic New Zealand aerial photography, the collection is but a fraction of the tens of thousands of negatives and prints given by the company to the library in 2007.
It's bound to be pored over and enjoyed by older readers because many of the pictures show New Zealand as it once was, especially in the 1940s, '50s and '60s - a nation growing fast but not yet quite having relinquished its rural past.
The bulk of the photographs show various towns and cities all over the country, and one cannot help but muse over the way coastal urban development has today almost entirely obliterated the many quiet, remote and delightful beach holiday places of distant memory, a handful of which are shown in wonderful detail here.
