Lucy Bee (Bennett, really, but there was another Lucy in her class and Lucy B. became Lucy Bee and stuck) is happy with her life until a nasty boy calls her a fuzzy-headed freak.

Until then, her unruly mop of hair hadn't been too much of a problem, but she now realises no-one else in her family has anything like it. Perhaps she was adopted? Not satisfied with her mother's assurances, Lucy sets out to chart her genes and those of her wider family, to compare them.

She disguises it as her science fair project, but really she is desperate to know where she came from. Is her mum telling the truth? Why is she so different from the rest of the family? Lucy has a bee in her bonnet!

Anne Ingram handles Lucy's story with great skill and a light touch. You will want to know where that hair came from.
