Firm interest in ghosts

SPOOKED. By Jo Davy and James Gillard. Random House
The subtitle, Exploring the Paranormal in New Zealand, tells what Spooked is all about. James Gilberd is one of the founders of a group dedicated to investigating things that go bump in the night. His interest was sparked by a personal spooky experience and that evolved into his company, Strange Occurrences.

Spooked rambles through the way Strange Occurrences was set up and how it works, and includes some of the investigations undertaken.

Dunedin's Ra Bar and Ghost hairdressers get mentions, as does Larnach Castle, but Lisburn House's ghost is omitted.

Central Otago gets a brief chapter but there is nothing from Southland.

More about Strange Occurrences than strange occurrences, Spooked may spark more interest in exploring the paranormal, but it's doubtful.

Gillian Vine is a Dunedin journalist.
