Anyone who missed the documentary on Port Chalmers artist Ralph Hotere last weekend on the Sky Documentary Channel will be relieved to know the network is rescreening the programme.

Sky originally planned to rescreen Hotere on January 31, 2009.

However, "due to such a large amount of interest" (and some serious badgering from the Otago Daily Times) the channel has agreed to bring the rescreening forward forward to 9pm on October 16.

Hotere, which was directed by Merita Mita, would be one of the best New Zealand art documentaries this writer has seen.

McFarlane exhibition

Meanwhile, Hotere's wife, Mary McFarlane, an artist in her own right, opens her latest exhibition in the Dunedin Public Art Gallery this weekend.

"Hikoi" features an array of walking sticks, which are depicted as talismans in social, political, physical and emotional history.

"Hikoi" by Mary McFarlane opens at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery on Saturday and runs till October 12.
