''Gericault to Gauguin: Printmaking in France 1820-1900'' features 34 works from the Te Papa collection, which illustrate the revival of printmaking in France in the second half of the 19th century,The exhibition includes etchings, drypoints, lithographs and woodcuts by members of the Barbizon school, impressionist and post-impressionist movements.
It also features works by artists who are better known as painters, such as Corot, Manet, and Renoir, as well as examples by master printmakers, including Legros and Bracquemond. A selection of Japanese woodcuts shows the influence the culture had on French artists of the time.
''Gericault to Gauguin: Printmaking in France 1820-1900'' opens in the Dunedin Public Art Gallery on Saturday.
