> Peyroux exhibition
Dunedin artist Steev Peyroux revisits the favourite tramping ground of late artist Colin McCahon in an exhibition opening this weekend.
"From A Higher Place" features 10 works composed from around Otago Peninsula, where McCahon spent a good deal of time.
"I was initially drawn to the peninsula idea by my love of McCahon's Peninsula work and the magic it held for me," Peyroux says.
"From A Higher Place" opens at The Artist's Room on Saturday and runs until May 29.
> Ancient Greeks in NZ?
What would have happened if the ancient Greeks had settled New Zealand is the subject of a talk at the Hocken Gallery today.
"Herakles Comes to New Zealand: Hellenic Heroism in the work of Marian Maguire" by University of Otago department of classics head Dr Patricia Hannah looks at the new exhibition by lithographer Marian Maguire. "The Labours of Herakles" casts Greek hero Herakles as a New Zealand colonist.
The talk will start at 12.30pm in the Hocken seminar room and end at the exhibition in the Hocken Gallery.
"The Labours of Herakles" is on at the Hocken Gallery until July 17.
> Southern Consort concert
The Southern Consort of Voices is inviting former members to join its 30th anniversary concert next month.
The celebratory concert will reflect the past, present and future of choral writing, music director Daniel Kelly says.
The concert will also showcase two new pieces by local composers Anthony Ritchie and Michael Winikoff.
The concert will be held at 7.30pm in the Otago Girls' High School hall on June 26.

> International recognition
Dunedin dance-film production company Good Company Arts has been getting international recognition.
Three films by the company headline Australian, Dutch and Italian festivals this month.
Matchbox has been invited to screen in Australia's ReelDance Festival 2010 in Sydney this weekend.
The film will then tour Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Northern Territory festivals.
Matchbox is also a finalist in the Napolidanza 2010 international contest for dance film, in Naples, Italy.
Meanwhile, another Good Company Arts film, After Durer, has been invited by the Cinedans Festival to be part of Danslab Den Haag and Filmhuis Den Haag 2010, in the Netherlands.
> Let there be light
Lantern-makers are needed to run three weekend lantern-making workshops for this year's Dunedin Midwinter Carnival.
The workshops will be held from early next month.
The theme for the carnival is "Creatures of the Sea".
A meeting will be held at 5pm today at the University of Otago Clubs and Societies building, or contact the carnival office at 477-3350 to register your interest.
> The museum exposed
Photographer Neil Pardington exposes collection storage spaces that are normally closed to the public at Otago Museum this weekend.
"The Vault" features large-format works of behind-the-scenes areas of New Zealand museums, archives and libraries.
"The Vault" opens on Saturday in the Otago Museum Special Exhibitions Gallery, on level one.
An "Inside The Vault" presentation will be held at 2pm on Saturday in the Barclay Theatre.
Pardington will give a talk about the exhibition at 2pm on Sunday.
