The state of the roads and footpaths in Ravensbourne has been labelled a disgrace by a community board member.
At the West Harbour Community Board meeting this week, deputy chairman Trevor Johnson raised the issue of slumping and potholes on the suburb's footpaths and roads.
Mr Johnson said the roads had been neglected for sometime and residents had come to him fed up at the damage and lack of any repair work.
''We've got footpaths that need replacing and got pot-holes all over the place, and it's not a good look and a disgrace, quite frankly.''
The neglect was not isolated to Ravensbourne and it seemed the Dunedin City Council was more concerned with large projects in the city than routine maintenance in the smaller suburbs and towns, he said.
It was particularly bad in Athol Pl, Manapouri St and Junction Rd.
''It beggars belief to me that they can't put a regime in place where they regularly check these things and fix them when needed, but it is a city-wide thing.''
Dunedin City Council transport group manager Richard Saunders said council staff would investigate the concerns raised at the community board meeting and report back at its next meeting in July.

SImple -a lack of funds. The white elephant (Stadium) costs the ratepayers of Dunedin $15m in interest (paid and forgone) per annum. It does not leave much for anything else, especially as loan principals need repaying, lack of direct stadium income from games/concerts and on going maintenance. A massive on going loss maker that needs 3 Ed Sherwin type/volumes every month just to breakeven. And unfortunately that is not going to happen. So all other services suffer.
Well done the DCC who were financially inept and/or compromised voting for this millstone without considering the future implications.
Comon - Ravensbourne look at those power poles you can't have power poles like that with good roads. -seriously this is B/S DCC - where is Pope now? I seen a video on Youtube where coco pops and milk fixes potholes check out Pack n Save for a special on coco pops
We can't have both basic essential infrastructure AND a new "architectural" bridge!
Good to see the DCC has its priorities right. Not.
