Dunedin City Council chief executive Sue Bidrose says she is "delighted'' to have signed on with the organisation for another two years.

It was confirmed this afternoon Dr Bidrose's contract had been extended by two years, to November 22, 2020.

Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull said she had made a "significant'' contribution during her time at the DCC, and the extension was unanimously approved during the non-public part of  yesterday's council meeting.

The Local Government Act requires council chief executives to be given five-year fixed term contracts, with provision for the incumbent to be offered a two-year renewal.

Dr Bidrose was appointed chief executive in 2013.
